On behalf of the National Park Service, Rock Creek Park and the Civil War Defenses of Washington, we welcome you to a self-guided tour of historic Fort Stevens. The fort served as the focal point for the defense of Washington during a confederate attack in July of 1864 and is one of nine Civil War installations under the stewardship of Rock Creek Park. On this tour you will learn the role that the fort served during the Battle of Fort Stevens and learn the incredible stories of those individuals that worked and lived here. To begin the tour, walk to the corner of Georgia Avenue, NW and Quackenbos Street NW, also known as Elizabeth Thomas Way.
